6kW Immersion Heaters

Backer Heatrod's 6kW immersion heaters heat water and process fluids in commercial and light industrial systems. Every unit in this range is a complete 6kW heating element supplied with its terminal enclosure and thermostat fitted, so it goes into a tank or calorifier without further specification work.

There are four options. The HR series is the standard 6kW immersion heater, with an Incoloy 825 sheath and an IP55 rotatable terminal cover, suited to commercial hot water systems, HVAC buffer tanks and standard process heating. The HRi heavy duty version carries the same element in an IP68 enclosure, for outdoor tanks, wash-down areas and any installation where moisture ingress or vibration is a factor. Where the water is hard or the fluid is aggressive, the HRZ and HRZi titanium models give the same output with a titanium sheath.

All four are available in 16", 24" and 36" immersed lengths, with 1¾", 2" and 2¼" BSPP threads, wired for 240V single phase or 415V three phase. Each is supplied with a Diamond-H WTS thermostat controlling from 28°C to 80°C, with a 90°C safety cut-out.

Choosing a 6kW Immersion Heater

The choice between the four 6kW immersion heaters comes down to two questions: where the unit is installed, and what is in the water. For an indoor plant room or a standard commercial cylinder, the IP55 HR series is the right specification. For an outdoor tank, a wash-down environment or anywhere subject to vibration, the IP68 HRi heavy duty unit is the safer choice. Immersed length should match the depth of the vessel, with the element sitting clear of any sediment at the base.

Incoloy or Titanium at 6kW

An Incoloy 825 sheath is the standard specification and handles most commercial water systems without difficulty. In hard water areas, scale builds on the element surface, insulates it and shortens its working life. A titanium 6kW heating element resists that better, and it is also the choice where the fluid being heated is chemically aggressive rather than simply hard.

Single Phase and Three Phase

Every 6kW immersion heater in this range is available wired for 240V single phase or 415V three phase. A 6kW load on single phase draws 25A, which is a significant part of a domestic or small commercial supply. Check what the installation can carry before ordering, as the two are not interchangeable once wired.
